Which is what I was testing, the only issue now seems to be propagation from
other servers to this one in a timely manner.

That may be a temporary DNS issue while the address propagates through
many routers.

New server? Is this why I've been having heaps of trouble getting newsgroups
lately? You'd think they'd have emailed me...

Cheers,

Its actually been on their web site, even I found it.
The gist is this, although the server hardware was near its replacement
date, it failed unexpectedly and had to be replaced. It took a while to
build it and get the software working initially under a different name, ie
reader in place of news, but now its all propagated through to the DNS
servers I think and its working as before.
However I do occasionally notice it drops the connecting and needs a prod,
whether this is just configuration, I'm not sure. I'm using a different
sever as my main one and ES as back up on this machine ere..

Thanks for that Brian. I hadn't checked their site as although it was
hanging posting and taking a couple tries updating groups it WAS getting
through.

Your test failed, since it appeared in a non-test group.

Indeed! Shame on you for posting to alt.compulsive.pedants.

Slowly getting back up to speed here. It does tend to throw up a
connection error every so often.

I've set up a mirror newsgroup connection with aioe.org - works very well.

Did that ages ago on this ancient RISC OS computer. It visits both - but
doesn't download duplicates. But not both of them carry all the groups I
read.
