BBC FM channels back to normal, or even better than before,
although this might be because I paid a visit to the loft and cleaned up the connections to my 3-el loft FM aerial. Mind you it has now become nice and dry which seems to help. Does anyone know what they were doing for so many weeks ?. |

Chuckle, but the best effect I ever got with bad signals was to replace the
downlead completely even though there appeared to be nothing wrong with the old one. Brian -- ----- - This newsgroup posting comes to you directly from... The Sofa of Brian Gaff... Brian Poorly installed downleads usually fill with rainwater over time. Particularly semi-air-spaced ones like CT100. I always force silicone grease into the top of a downlead when I connect it to the antenna. But I'm guessing you don't find yourself hanging off the house chimney that often? d --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus |

Phil Except that after the problem became noticibly bad, the first places I looked at were the Arquiva website which was rather unhelpful, and the BBC website, but made the mistake of using the 'search' facility which is useless. Only by going through 'teletext' did I find a page referring to the website page where reception problems might be found. So I actually cleaned up the connections three weeks ago, but with the transmitter on reduced power, it only had a marginal, if any improvement at that time. The engineering works has been going on for almost 2 months. |

Not these days. My aerial is in the loft and its been lagged so its a bit like walking on sponge with hidden weak spots. you end up moving around on your stomach and tracing the wire route by feel in any case. Brian I have 300mm of insulatin, but I have made some stand-offs out of 1 inch plywood that are glued and bolted to the trusses supporting 4 metres horizontal lengths of50mm x 50mm timber about 600 mm apart, with MDF scrap offcuts that B&Q chucked out for 50p a sheet. Makes crawling around a loft made of modern trusses so much easier and safer. |

The engineering works has been going on for almost 2 months. Periods of reduced transmitter power are useful. You use them to sort out your signal path. d --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus |
