Default DVD audio

I thought I'd have to turn the vcr on for the audio to be put through ???
At first thoughts I'd rather leave the vcr off.

What is macrovision (an undocumented 'feature' or something intentional) ??

Copy protection on DVD video.
IIRC it's a bit on the DVD that tells the player to vary the size
of a sync pulse. TVs are not affected but VCRs have an automatic
gain control so the video gets brighter and dimmer as the pulse
voltage varies.

If I route the DVD video through the aux scart on the VCR,
it flashes when the VCR is turned on.

Some of those multiregion hacks for DVDs also disable
macrovision.
