Default Sony HAR-LH500 - Title database

Hi All,

I have had to send mine back too, but for different reasons. Faulty CD
player. To begin with it would read 2 out of three disks..after a
couple of weeks and eventually ripping 300 cd's it must have read
about 1 in 20. But with patience I could get it to read a cd just by
trying and trying again. Also the noise the CD player made makes me
wonder if it has not damaged the disks.

I have asked for it to be repaired as I do not want to lose all the
cd's I have uploaded..I just hope that was the right thing, as it is
so disappointing that I cannot read the Hard Disk through my PC, only
with the Sony software. I want/need to be able to browse the player
through Windows Explorer so that I can back the damn machine up and
also so that I can use Windows Media Player or something similar to
play the files.

My goal was to 'eventually' use it as a slave drive being driven by a
PC with a touch screen in the living room, playing through my surround
sound system and using something like Media Player as the front
end...Sony confirmed that I could do this before I bought the player.
But it cannot be done. Yet Media Player is so much nicer to use and
fun. Also as the pc is permanently connected to the internet it seemed
like a good idea, especially that the player picks up all the track
listings for the ripped cd's at the gracelands site.

The search being case sensitive is a pain, especially with the remote
control. It is so much easier to operate through a pc and the Sony
software..so I still think the pc option is the way forward, but I
will have to set up differently to what I wanted and use the Sony
software (eeeek). I just hate being pigeon holed into using products
not of my choice. The software really needs to be upgraded and
revamped. It should be able to do so much more and to be more friendly
and versatile. My opinion though, personally, the player itself only
really becomes practical when attached to a pc as to use it from the
remote control and/or front panel is just horrendous.

Was it worth buying? Am not convinced yet.

I am just concerned that after all this work I have done that I will
lose everything and not be able to restore. Your problems scare me!

But I will let you all know what happens to my unit..and I hope all
your problems are resolved!
