Well, summer's officially here at last (ignore the weather, it's just
a glitch) - tonite is the First Night Of The Proms! So all of you who
like pop music and have systems good enough can tune in and enjoy the
experience of a 'real live event' without the hassle and expense of
actually attending it!! ;-)
(Although I have to say it, if my kit sounded as bad as the PA'd
'live' event that I experienced at the RAH a few weeks back it would
be out on the back lawn in a heap, by now......)
Will be giving my new tuner a good testing tonight :-)
At seven thirty tonight the proms start, on radio 3, to kick it off is
Bach/Henry Wood: Toccata and Fugue in D minor
Elgar: The Music Makers
Lorraine Hunt Lieberson (mezzo-soprano)
Martin Neary (organ)
BBC Symphony Chorus
BBC Symphony Orchestra
Leonard Slatkin (conductor)
Have you heard the Albert Hall organ since they rebuilt it?
Incredible!
I think so - too dim-witted to be paying attention the other day!
I think it was on the radio (in the background, not listening too closely -
organ music is commonplace in this household as I can't get enough of it)
and then I heard an announcement mentioning something about the restoration
being finished!
If the Prom is opening with Bach's Toc & Fug on it we all need to be in our
seats a bit sharpish! (And me getting truly ****e FM reception today!!!)
I'm glad I made my mega subwoofer a few months ago. Not one of those
honking tuned port jobs, but a seriously low Fs driver in a huge
(concrete cupboard) sealed box. This is what I made it for.
