Surely that depends on your definition of "bad" doesn't it?
It's a simple definition - if what comes out of an amplifier is not a
larger but otherwise identical version of what went in, then it's a
bad amplfier. Not a difficult concept - it's called high fidelity.
And if it was designed that way?
Then the designer designed a bad amplfier. It happens - mostly at very
inflated prices.
No, he designed an amplifier to do a specific job. When will you get
over your arrogance that presupposes that if you think it's bad then
that's what it is?
Nothing to do with me, it's basic definition of what an amplifier
should do - *just* amplify.
To me 'bad' is if it doesn't do the job it is intended for.
A Rover City does the job it was intended for - it's still a bad car!
How can it be bad if it does the job?
It does it very badly - kinda like a 2A3 amplifier............
Nice try Pinky, but it doesn't work like that - *I* throw the sticks,
*you*
run after them and fetch them OK?
Nah, I just like to play with your subspecies for a while, until you
run out of sidesteps. Your little rodent friend claims to be
domesticated, but acts more like a lemming!
'Subspecies' from a hired lackey like you? - That's rich!!
Now, did I (or did I not) see a little mention that you were tempted to
toss
a little triode amp together yourself or was it just another 'brainfart'
of
yours???
(The ****'s bound to go for summat with 845s, with 100W output and about
2500 to 3000V of plate voltage - with a bit of luck he'll slip while he's
testing it out!! :-)
Correct - a push-pull 845 design was *exactly* what I had in mind,
although about 60-70 watts seems a little kinder to the output
devices, and you're clearly not informed about the B+ rail
requirements.
See 833A/TB3-1000 75W/100W A2 class monotriode on...

....it uses 211s or 845s as fekkin' drivers....!! :-)
Make your hair curl if you get careless though.....
More like a *very* memorable scene in The Green Mile, I suspect! ;-)
The point was, after all, to prove that even a simple valve design
*can* be made linear if you know what you're doing! Essentially, a
Nagra amp at asensible price. It will of course sound just like my
Krell, or my Audiolab 8000P, or a Yamaha AX-592, but that's not a bad
thing, just an extravagance.
Anyway, cut all the blather and bluster - *do* something for once! Let's see
*you* throw an amp together - I've done it...

(It ain't rocket science.....!!!)
