Does anyone know anything about these speakers?
Got them from a boot sale and they need some work (the cone of one of
the woofers has come partly unstuck from its rubber mount). Even with
this problem they sound pretty good at low volumes, but I'd love to be
able to turn them up and see if they fullfil their promise! However,
I don't know what they are worth (and therefore how much it's worth
spending on fixing them up).
Also, can anyone recommend a place in London where I could get them
repaired? I was quoted £50 per speaker by a local music shop to
service speakers of this vintage but this seems quite expensive to me
for glueing a bit of card to some rubber (or am I showing my ignorance
here?).
Many thanks

I had a pair where the rubber surrounds had solidified. 50 pounds to
repair a speaker like this is maybe a little expensive although I've not
tried getting mine repaired. Last time I had a 12 inch speaker re-coned
I think it came to around 30 pounds - and that was dealing direct with
the repairer, so maybe the music shop was just adding their usual
markup.
The power handling won't be as good as more modern speakers of a similar
size but I seem to remember that they sounded reasonably good in their
day.
Cheers.
James.
