I think it's the "designed to prevent" getout! I can design a car to do
300mph, it won't do it but it was designed to :-)

Very nearly a getout - one could design a car to do 300mph, and be
able to demonstrate the aspects of the design that supported the
claim, even if a street engine option denied you the actual
performance. The same could not be achieved with these speakers and
their design to prevent standing waves.
