Winemaking is the original chemistry
Interesting stuff! Do you think the tasters can actually identify the
chemicals
involved?

You mean like the old joke of the French putting anti-freeze in to make the
wine taste older?
I guess wine tasters train their taste buds and sniffers just as an audio
type would train their lug-holes.
I have won a couple of bets in restaurants correctly identifying wines. Only
as far as the grape type. But there are stories of those who can identify
not just the grape but also the region and from that the soil it was grown
in. The soil thing is just memory really though as you'll know the grape and
which soil is best suited, or the most likely soil for a region blah blah
blah.
I could never listen to a hifi system and get the brands. Although if you
could identify a brand you could from memory go on to identify components
LOL.
