Microphones are often not chosen for accuracy, but because they
provide a certain coloration. Think of them as tone controls on a
stick.

But of course. Anybody can do it. All you need is a PC with a
halfways-decent audio interface and the freebie Audio Rightmark program.

I thought you were in the UK, but now get the impression you might
