Default It lives, Igor!!

Well, it looks like the Cyrus Two has been brought back from the dead.
Rather, once I had a look at the Cyrus One schematic, I managed to work out
that the blown components were all in the phono circuitry - the regulators
mentioned in the previous thread aren't used in the main amp, just for the
turntable inputs.

Since I don't have a turntable, and never will, I desoldered the diodes for
the phono PSU and set about checking the smoothing circuit for the main PSU.
I had already checked that the transformer was putting out convincing AC, I
took out the fuses and reconnected the transformer to see if the main PSU
was doing what it should - looks like it delivers 40Vdc. I put the fuses
back in, plugged in a sine wave and the scope showed a signal on the speaker
outputs.

Bloody hell! It was only in a coma!

I've just dragged the little Wharfdale speakers out of the bedroom,
connected them up, and plugged in a portable minidisk - yup, it definitely
works! Next step is to put it back together again and connect it to the
hi-fi. I've always wondered how this amp would sound with my speakers, so it
looks like I'll be finding out soon. Watch this space for a little review to
assess how it sounds, and how it compares to the valve amp I currently
use...
