The manual which came with one CD player I owned (I forget which one)
cautioned against leaving the player on pause for too long, however
the warning I believe concerned a possibility of damaging the player,
rather than the disc (I also forget the specifics now).

**Correct, though the damage is merely wear on the disk motor, as the laser
is almost always switched off, when in pause.
