I think I know what you mean. Browsing around Comet last month there was a
Philips Micro system at around £150 which sounded surprisingly good.

This may be difficult for you with the floorstanding speaker
preference
- I really don't think you're going to get very good speakers of this
type for your budget, best to get the tiddly Missions IMO.

I was thinking of the Mission M73I floorstander speakers paired with the
Cambridge Audio A5 amp and CD34 cd player?
