The rule used to be that you took your budget and divided by four. A quarter for the amp and the player and a quarter each for
the speakers. The balance seems to have changed away from the speakers and I think that this is misguided. Speakers are
inherently a problem. They have fundamental flaws like one driver having to produce low notes that then modulate the higher
frequencies, low efficiency, resonance and varying impedance making smooth characteristic curves unlikely. Distortion is high
compared with the electronics. I think more money ought to go into speakers.
