Default Rotel RCD-02 not playing CDs

Hi all,

Does anyone have a Rotel RCD-02? Mine is new, and won't play any CD which
is even slightly marked. Any other player in the house plays these disks
no problems. I tried burning one of these disks to a pristine blank, but
the player won't even recognise that disk.

Are these players stupidly, unusably fussy, or does this suggest mine is
faulty?

**They're not overly fussy players. Their laser is a standard type.

Thanks, I was pretty sure that was the case. I'm not 100% sure, but I
think it's getting worse as it burns in. It won't play disks that it
did play a couple of days ago. It has also started distorting badly
when it does manage to play some tracks.

Either way, back to the shop I guess...

**Just tell them that it won't play a bunch of your slightly scratched CDs.
Don't bother complaining that it won't play burned disks, UNLESS the
instruction manual specifically states that the machine will play them.

The manual doesn't mention it, but when auditioning in the listening
room at the shop, the demo unit played a load of CDRs no problem.

Oh, and by the way, coupled with the Rotel RA-03 and a pair of Quad 12L,
this player sounds fantastic! Recommended, if only it would work for any
disk...

**Take it back.

Will do. I'm a bit disapointed. This is my first venture out from the
world of all-in-one high street audio tat. I know I'm at the entry
level end of the world of hi-fi, but I've had tens of cheapo cd/dvd
players in my time and not one has ever skipped, distorted or failed to
read a disk. Ever. As soon as I dig deep and spend a few bucks, I get
a dud! Typical...

Cheers,
Graeme
