Quad 57's

I keep telling myself I *don't* want to buy a pair of 57's but I'm not
convincing myself :-) How much are you asking for them and where are you?
Just be aware that if you buy ESL which are 40 years old, they may need
expensive
repairs. The bass panels are charged up with 6,000 volts, and although its quite
safe,
this voltage leaks away.
If they don't need a repair now, and have never been repaired, they soon will.
Treble panels are all too easily fried by teenagers in charge of a volume
control if the
speakers have hooked to modern amps capable of 100 watts.
The cost of repairs for the panels in these speakers are never cheap.
I am left to wonder that perhaps dynamics have improved a bit since 1957.

I've a pair for sale that I've not advertised ANYWHERE yet. I had them
reburbished and rebuilt by One thing audio in Oct 99 - they look and
sound superb & on GFD adj/tilt stands , that add 12" to the height.
Due to baby I nolonger have the room. These will not be going on Ebay.
email me at
- they are in Kent/SE London. £550
all in, no offers.
