Default Multi-Channel Receiver vs Stereo Amplifier

om...
I've currently got a stereo system consisting of a Marantz PM 6010 OSE
amp, a Sony CDP-XE 570 CD player and Tannoy MX2-M speakers. I now want
to move into home cinema a bit as well, so am planning to expand on
this by buying a multi-channel receiver, a DVD player and matching
(Tannoy MXR & MXC) surround speakers. For the receiver, I'm thinking
primarily about the Marantz SR4300, but I'm wondering about a couple
of things now:

1) Given that I don't want to sacrifice the stereo performance of my
existing system, am I better off simply replacing the PM6010 with the
SR4300 or should I connect the amp to the front L/R pre-outs of the
receiver and still run the stereo speakers off the amp? In other
words, is the PM6010 significantly better in terms of pure stereo
performance than the SR4300? My guess is yes, but it's just a guess...

2) Are there any other budget receivers (say up to about 200 pounds
street price) that offer front pre-outs? I've looked around, but can't
seem to find any. The extra flexibility this offers (see above) is
part of the reason I'm favoring the SR4300 at the moment. But it'd be
nice to have some alternatives...

Thanks for your help!
