I own a very old Sony CDP - 990 CD player, which has served me brilliantly
for more years than I care to remember. However, last year, I visited Richer
Sounds for one of their Sunday clearance sales and picked up a Sony DVP
S735D for just £30. Looking at the unit, it appeared to had never been
plugged in and the manual and remote were still in their sealed packaging.
The 735 received rave reviews a few years ago and cost around £500. After
setting it up, I found the picture quality superb. However, a couple of
nights ago, I happened to drop a CD into the 735 and quite frankly, was
knocked out by the sound quality reproduced by this primarily DVD player.

Anyone else found DVD players as good or better than CD players for playing
CD's?

Cheers all

Well, my Sony DVP-S7700 has a dual laser system so it's supposed to
have a mechanism accuracy that is superior to most CD players.
I think the transport was used in Mark Levinson CD players. However,
I personally don't think it sounds better than my base-level Rotel
RCD-855 cd player. Maybe I need a new preamp?
