I'm about to buy my first set of hi-fi seperates - Acoustic Solutions from
Argos. It will have to do as a starting point. If you buy 3 AS products
you get the floorstander speakers for free but the Argos website (513/0102)
has them at being 105cm high which is taller than I'd expected. Is this
about normal for floorstander speakers?
Strangely, these (also from Argos - 512/3229) are cheaper & have a better
*stated* spec:

I have used 2 pairs, one set in series as a centre speaker! The other pair
are on tall adjustable stands (535/2746) costing the same as one pair of
speakers.
Used with a sub from Richer's and a pair of tiny Aristons (Richer's
again) for the rears these make a reasonably acceptable surround system
for dvd bangs-n-crashes. They ain't hi-fi though. :-)
