I've got a turntable, amp, laptop and Cooledit.

I want to copy some LP's to the laptop to burn to CD.

When I connect the tape phono cable input to the mic socket on the
laptop the recording is too loud. I can't attenuate it enough but I
don't have a line in socket on the laptop.

Is there anything I can do?

- external USB sound card? - any recommendations

Hi - I think it might be worth trying one of these things:

creative MP3+. I've got an apparently posh version of the same thing that
you can have for a, er, bargain price, an opcode sonicport. You plug the

USB
into the laptop, which can then send/receive digital or analogue.Could

never
get it to work properly in win98 but works natively in XP, and very good

it
is too. I don't understand one poster's 'obsolete USB' reference.

USB 1.0 or 1.1 old but works, 12 megabit per second transfer,
USB 2.0 also known as 'fast USB' 480 megabit per second etc
