Nothing to do with Bose Acoustic Waves (and long)

I never make claims about 'good' or 'bad' when it comes to kit - I'm no
expert and I simply can't hear the nuances, I only go by what I like or
what I don't like. For a long time now my kit (or any permutation thereof)
has been at least *OK*, thankfully....
Anyway, as I said earlier, it's not what I say that counts - tonight Shiny
Nigel will put me right in a heartbeat! :-)
Hah!
(See below....)
Let me qualify that - he flogs the stuff for a living and has had about 15
years experience of hooking stuff up (frequently in front of the customer)
and really *does* know immediately if summat's not right.
Hoo boy, did he not.....
(He does also seem to have a very good ear and he tells it like it is - if
he likes the 2A3/Buschhorn combo that'll do me! ;-)
In comes SN, he sits down, I put summat on (can't even remember what) and
straight away he says: "That speaker's buzzing!!"
....and it was!!
(Fekky Norah - I hadn't heard it up 'til then but I heard it plenty
thereafter!)
Not hearing it until it was pointed out to me was/is a bigger problem to me
than the buzz itself! (That's already on its way to sorted - I mentioned it
to Terry at Wilmslow Audio this morning and he's putting a replacement in
the post asap - no hassles, no quibbles!!)
Anyway, buzz notwithstanding, we proceeded to get into it - next up was that
there was no 'image' and what image there was, was shifted to the right. OK,
moving the speakers into the 'inside' position of the two pairs of speakers
seem to cure that *sufficiently*...(???)
During the course of the next 2/3 hours the Buschhorns went from being
placed third in a *two horse* race to where the highs were better than the
Loths (which have supertweeters...???), the bass was as good as the Loths
(moving the Buschhorns actually did tighten that up) and the clarity/detail
was even *better* than the Loths!!??
What it is, is the Buschhorns are more 'forward' than the Loths and it takes
a bit of getting used to. Once you have accomodated this it's hard to go
back - a natural process I have observed with the Loths over the B&Ws first
and now the Buschhorns over the Loths....
Not possible to cover what music was used for the session (CD, MP3, DVD and
LP) as there was so much of it. One particular standout was the way these
Buschhorns reproduce piano - not the lowest octave too well possibly, but
they can reproduce that 'frost' that hangs round the highest notes you get
from a good piano (but not from an 'electronic' one)....
Ironically/amusingly/irritatingly (?) the most impressive result was when I
hopped through Kill Bill 1 on me new 23 quid DVDP - the music was superb and
the detail in the fight scene (all those people in Kato masks and black
suits) was staggering for sound quality (sword tips lightly dragged on the
floor kinda thing), depth and detail - best I've ever heard it (by far)!
Anyway, at the end of a very trying evening (*we* were not well, *we* hadn't
even been out the last few Friday nights apparently, *we* were sniffing,
snorting and sneezing continuously, *our* arms were aching and had no
strength and *we* were driving me nuts...) the Pinkies got a 'very good'
verdict and a thumbs up all round!!
Which was nice.... :-)
(Hope that wasn't *too* boring for everyone!! :-)
