I know this may prompt cry's of "but you like SET's why do you want one of
those", but I don't suppose anyone here in the UK has a unwanted HP 334 or
such like that they would consider exchanging for a sensible sum of money?
I have been watching on ebay for some time, but can't talk myself into
paying the shipping from the states where they all seem to be.

If you can find one, my advice is to go for a Ferrograph RTS1. It is an
all-in-one audio
measuring set, includes distortion and level, has a low distortion
oscillator and can measure drift and wow and flutter. They were made in the
UK, so you won't have to pay shipping charges. Measures down to 0.1%
full-scale, so if the distortion is below what you can measure, you don't
need to worry about it.
