I was wondering if anyone here could give me a little advice, or point me to
a group where I could ask.
Item in question: Pioneer VSX-908RDS AV Amplifier. approx 3 years old
Recently this amp became rather poorly, so poorly that it stopped giving any
output at all. It still lights up and switches between the different
sources, still warms up, basically everything is normal but for the lack of
output. I have tested my speakers with a different amp, tried the
headphones, but nothing.
Firstly, has anyone had this problem with this, or a similar amp? If so,
what was the problem? Is this a 'give to a pro' type of repair, or could I
(being fairly competent) attempt a repair myself.
**Pioneer AV receivers (indeed, most budget receivers) are no fun to
repair. Look at the bottom of the thing. If you can't remove the
bottom cover, you're in for a BIG dissasembly job. The problem is
likely to be dry solder joints in the power supply and/or output
stage. Pioneers (and most other mass market stuff) are notorious for
this kind of fault.
