FWIW At home if I want to analyse something I tend to record onto CD-R,
then load the data onto my computer and analyse it there.

Bit depth will have a big impact on resolution.



Erm... The number of bits per sample may have an effect of the dynamic
range / noise floor. However provided the input is dithered and you have a
fair number of samples you should be able to get well over 100dB range
without too much problem. e.g. being 32k samples with 16bits/sample.

I'd hope that a dynamic range of 100dB would suffice for most concerns
about distortion in domestic audio kit. :-)

The frequency resolution will depend on the number of samples.
