i have my stereo from my car that i had to scrap so i was wondering could i
put it to use in my house as a standalone unit running my 6x9's?

any ideas on this at all?

Not a problem at all - they get used in a lot of boats and caravans.
For home you need a suitable 12v supply (check for power requirements
- Tandy or Maplin should be able to help) and and aerial if you want
to use the radio.

However - you need to build some sort of case for it and also some
sort of boxes for your speakers if they're going to sound any good.
To be honest you're probably better of selling what you've got on eBay
and putting the money towards a seperates system from somewhere like
Richer Sounds. They'd almost certainly get you something that looked
better, sounded better and was more convenient for no more than £200.
