Not sure of the exact cure, but it sounds like a ground loop issue.

Indeed - I had the same problem once, and fitting a ground loop isolator
into the RCA leads sorted it out.

Take a look at http://www.maplin.co.uk/, item VW43W. That should sort it
out. I believe Halfords sell one too.
