E46 CD changer - info req'd pls
Damn Rick!
That looks like a sweet setup for music. Let us know how the install turns
out and the pro's and con's of the unit after you put it in. I'd be very
insterest in a unit like that.

and a 6-pin for the CD changer, not 4 and 8...can't remember the wire
colors. You're sure it's 4 and 8 pins, not 3 and 6?
If you have the equipment rack in the back, then you should definitely be
pre-wired for the changer. It's a fairly simple job to install yourself.
You
can get the OEM changer, or Alpine (which also makes the OEM version)
makes
several "branded" changers that are less expensive and will work with the
appropriate adaptor, i.e., the stock head unit will control it, as well as
the steering wheel controls.
I have one, the CHA-S634, that plays CD's and MP3 CDROMS, it works and
sounds great, but is sloooow to read MP3 discs. So I'm trading it for a
Phatbox, which is a 20GB hardrive unit. It will hold my entire music
collection in the form of MP3 files, and looks to the car just like an OEM
CD changer. It uses voice announcements to identify artist, album, genre,
etc., thus making it fairly easy to search a massive collection without
taking your eyes off the road. It's about US$800, as opposed to $600 for
the
OEM changer, but well worth the difference in price IMHO. Not sure it's
available outside N. America, but check it out at www.phatnoise.com
