That's nothing to do with the speakers - it's the head unit's internal
amp going into heavy distortion. By adding higher power handling
speakers, you're increasing your ability to run the head unit to it's
maximum power level, and now finding it's definiciencies as a result.
In practice, the head unit is probably delivering something like
15-20w RMS. To overcome the problem, you basically need more power,
ie. an additional amp.
