I have a Sony 10-Disk CD Autochanger. AFAIK, it is working find, but the
head unit that controls it has thrown a bit of a wobbly. Problem is the
caddy with 10 of my CDs is still inside the changer. Anyone know if there
is
an easy way of getting it out without the head unit operational? Chances
are, there is a CD actually in the play position as I was listening to
one
when things went pear shaped.
It is possible to do, but not especially straightforward - if the
discs are all in the magazine, it's just a case of opening it up and
releasing the magazine mechanism, which is pretty obvious once you get
to the insides. If the disc's out of the magazine though, it's a bit
of a hassle, as you have to manually wind the mechanism back. The
process of doing this isn't immediately obvious, and you can easily
cause damage.
The simplest option is probably to ask your nearest Sony dealer
nicely, to see if they'll plug it into a head unit and eject the
magazine for you. It's a 2 minute job, so any good dealer should be
happy to do it for you.
Ok, thanks for the reply. I wanted to avoid taking it apart if possible, as
knowing me, I'll break it! And I'm fairly sure there WILL be a disk out of
the magazine.
Hoped there might be somewhere I could poke it from outside to release the
mechanism somehow (like the CD drive on some computers). Will probably
follow your advice and try to find a friendly Sony dealer nearby...
