From my (very) limited and recent experience of this - an AV amp could
form the start of a half decent hifi. Then bolt on a pair of decent
speakers as mains (tiddly Missions or wotnot) and some cheap surrounds.

You could do the whole lot for 100UKP through ebay, or 300UKP new. AV
amp prices seem to drop like stones as soon as a new 'killer feature' is
announced.

Just a thought based on a recent 4 year old Yamaha AV amp - stands up
well to other separate amps I've bought.
