You're not kidding - I'm actually digging out a new vegetable bed and I've
been hacking away at *granite* and tree roots all bloody morning! (I
collapse at the computer to get my breath back from time to time and zip
through the posts - getting it wrong it would seem!! :-)

I think I'd have been tempted to hire a mini-digger for the day. Loads
of fun, they will go through quite thick roots.
