That boing is almost certainly a small coil spring doing its thing
somewhere underneath. It probably once had a damping sleeve round it
that has since fallen off, rotted away or whatever.

Yes, that would be the obvious thing, and what I thought, except, it
happens at the same place on the recording, every time I try it!!!
