If you wish to comment on 7" sales, then you might also like to consider
those for 12" singles as well. :-)
Naturally I am pleased to hear this because the sound quality from some
of these little buggers (at 45 rpm) can be very good indeed and I love
playing them myself! I have often said that a couple of kids playing a
stack of singles back in the 60s probably got more enjoyment from them
than some of the 'audiophiles' do today on the most expensive kit!
I heard a report about this on R4 last night. The report included a comment
attributed to a BPI spokesman to the effect that, "They may be buying them
for 'fashion' reasons as many of the purchasers probably have no way to
play them."
