Keith, this last one looks clipped in several places. I'd guess your 300B
amp hasn't enough power even with Lowthers. How do they sound with
something a bit more powerful, even staying with valves?



I can't go down that road again, Serge - I've heard that track far too many
times lately!

I think the clipping is in the recording proces, I can certainly play that
plenty loud over the system without any distortion!! My problem is that
everything *still* has to be on the floor or it clips in Sound Forge!!


Sounds like the analogue input of your sound card is too sensitive. WHat
input are you using, mic or line? If line, are you using an external mic
amplifier? Can the gain of that device be turned down? What happens if
you use the card's mic input and the mic plugged straight in?

There should be a way of recording without all the controls at the
bottom of their travel.
