Can anyone recommend headphones in the £40 - £75 range for use with a
hi-fi system, mp3 players, possibly even for TV or PC use. They
wouldnt be used out-and-about so size, trendiness etc is not
important.
I like the Beyers and Sennheisers.

I'd say go to a decent store and try some out. Personally I've got
Sennheiser HD600s which I love; they're out of your price range but
definitely give some of the other Sennheisers a try.
By the way, if anyone convinces you to try Bose, give them a *very* long
test. On first impression they sound impressive but as far as I can tell
it's a very unnatural sound that will quickly get tiring.
Apart from Sennheiser and Beyer, it could be worth giving Sony a try. I
used
to have a couple of pairs and found them very comfortable and pretty
good
for the price.
Anyone here got the Bayer DT100 cans?, is it me or do they sound very
coloured in comparison to most anything else?..
They're dreadful by modern standards.
They have been around for about 40 yrs ! Simply an industry workhorse.

Can't for the life of me think why they stayed the industry workhorse for
such a long time. Sure, spare part were readily available with several
impedances to choose from. Closed back of course for studio use but to me
they sounded dull on speech and music flat.... and the cord was not at all
rugged. For broadcast work they uncomfortable, sweaty in a warm studio.
Good riddance to DT100's.
