Can anyone recommend headphones in the £40 - £75 range for use with a
hi-fi system, mp3 players, possibly even for TV or PC use. They
wouldnt be used out-and-about so size, trendiness etc is not important.

TIA.
Grado SR60's.

Alternatively save for used Sennheiser HD600 or
HD650's. The latter two models have an open
design, so your environment should be quiet,
otherwise you will hear all the background noise.

Open back headphones make for much more pleasant listening IMHO.

I've had open headphones (Jensen Float) and I've had (still have) closed
ones (AKG K270 and Koss Pro4AA). I prefer the closed ones, as I find the
bass to be better, and I don't have to worry about disturbing others in
the room, nor be disturbed.

The bass can be fixed on open-backed Sennheisers - all you need is a large
lump of blu-tak to fill the gaps!
(Seriously, this works - my HD600s sound great).
