Can anyone recommend a good repairer of hi-fi in Leeds specifically for an
Arcam CD player?
The one exception to this will be the repairer that Image Hi-Fi of
Headingley uses. The reason is that I took the Arcam Alpha 5 CD player along
with an Arcam Delta 290 amplifier to them a year or two ago. The CD player
jumped tracks especially on the first track and the amplifier had one
channel distorting on one of the inputs. When they were returned I was told
no fault was found with the CD player and the input selector switch had been
replaced to the amplifier. However the fault was still present on the CD
player and there was now distortion on all inputs on the amplifier. I took
both items back (I'd secretly marked the input switch!) and on the return
was again told that no faults had been found. Again the CD player still had
the fault but the amplifier had some distortion on both channels to one of
the inputs. This I discovered was due to faulty soldering which I rectified
myself and the input switch had again been replaced despite a claim of no
fault being found. I took the CD player back for a third time and again it
came back with no fault found and that I'd be charged if there wasn't any
fault found again.
You can now appreciate my reluctance to go back to the repairer that Image
Hi-Fi use. They're a good retailer but don't seem to have a very good
repairer on their books.
The fault has now got progressively worse and now skips for the first 2-3
tracks and I think that the tracking laser is at fault. If I knew that was
definitely the case then I'd replace it myself especially when considering
the last repairs supposedly carried out.
Any help or recommendations will be appreciated.

Why not send it back to Arcam or e-mail them for advice. No one usually
knows its equipment better than the ones who make it!..
