Default DON'T update iPod Video firmware when using the Connects2 Unilinkadaptor

As subject line!

I updated the firmware on my iPod Video 60GB to the latest version (as
bundled with iTunes 7). Normally I take the "if it ain't broke don't fix
it" mentality, but the latest firmware features gapless playback of
MP3s. I have a few live albums I'd like to be able to play in the car,
so I updated.

Big mistake.

Firstly the iPod no longer pauses when you turn the ignition off. Or
when you select another source (CD, tuner etc). So come back to it and
find that it's moved on from wherever the last song was. And more
seriously, because it keeps playing, the battery then runs flat. Cue 2
minutes of iPod rebooting when you start the car the following morning.

Secondly, and more seriously, it makes the system very unstable.

So far I've had to unplug and reinsert the Unilink cable 5-6 times as
the head unit has simply lost sight of the adaptor. I tried a full power
cycle to see if that cured it, no joy.

Then it'll completely lock up, the head unit comes up in standby but the
iPod is still playing. It's also frozen the head unit (requiring a
Unilink disconnect/reconnect cycle to recover) repeatedly.

I've now downgraded the firmware back to v1.1.1 and all's perfectly fine
again. Unfortunately to do this I've had to do a total restore and
reformat of the iPod, meaning 3-4 hours wasted to transfer 55GB of music
back onto it.

Not happy. What have Apple broken?
