Default Audio players compatible with slimserver

Hi folks, just started looking at this. I have installed slimserver on a
PC here and really like to get a wired or wireless player which will
interact with the slimserver and output into my existing amplifier.

Looking around the net, there appear to be some SlimDevices-brand
options - are there any 3rd party devices that link up to slimserver?

The Roku (now Pinnacle) Soundbridge did claim to work with Slimserver,
but as Slimserver is an ongoing project it will be likely hit or miss
whether Soundbridge will enjoy further support. IMO The word 'Pinnacle'
and 'Support' don't weld naturally together.

All other network connected MP3 players can play a stream from
slimserver http://serverIPaddress:9000/stream.mp3 but control will
have to be done over a web browser in that case. Wireless PDA?
With a JAVA running PDA you could run 'Softsqueeze', but the audio
quality output of that arrangement will be suspect.

So the best is "Squeezebox 3" (forget Transporter - overpriced), though
I am wondering if Logitech (the new owners) also have plans for
continued support especially since they are also building competing
products.

If the cost of Squeezebox is excessive to you, I would suggest ditching
slimserver and siting your computer next to your HiFi connecting with a
good sound card. Or modding an XBOX with XBMC etc... Small LCD computer
monitors are cheap nowadays...
