Hello all!

I have a 7-year old Arcam DV88. I've posted before to say that it
freezes on the odd DVD, but it seemed to improve marginally after a
clean.

Now, however, it's developed a more serious fault - it won't play CDs
(and it's my main CD player). It's OK from cold, but only for about
5 minutes, after which it doesn't recognise CDs (it says "No disc"),
and discs that are already in stop playing. DVDs still play, however.

I'm guessing that it's a fault with the drive as failure to recognise
or play a disc is accompanied by a frenzy of whirring.

The question is, is it worth repairing? Would I be better to cut my
losses and buy a new CD and/or DVD player? Is there an updrade that
could be purchased that would replace the drive?

All opinions welcome!

Andrew

If your in the UK take it to local Arcam dealer even if you did not buy

it
from them (boxed)
They will ship to Arcam and the fixed fee repair is about £140 be it
transport transformer or a couple of fuses

They will carry out full service

Where could you buy new for that price and quality ?

Thanks - that's interesting to know! Repairing it would be my preferred
option, and that would be a fair price for a new transport!
