Hi,

recently had two Quad II amps in for repairs and partial refurbishing
- new filter caps, cathode resistors etc.

One of them carried a serial number of over 153,000.

How many did Acoustical finally make before they changed to the 303 ?

BTW

I own number 8734 - originally made as a 100 - 130 volt model.

Its on Quad web site somewhere

According to the book "Quad - The Closest Approach" The Quad II was in
production between 1953 and 1970, and 90,000 were sold.
The 303 was in production between 1967 and 1985 and 94,000 were sold. The
HiFi Yearbook for the period also shows both models overlapping.

As to serial numbers, in my experience, they are seldom consequtive from No
00001, but either start at some already large number, or change depending on
version, year of manufacture, production line used etc, so numbers aren't
continuous.

I used to have a pair which were originally made with 100volt line output
transformers. Quad changed the TFs for me in 1972-3 for some ridiculously
small amount of money, and I used them bridged to drive a single IMF ALS40
in my lab at the time.
