I always found Du Pre too overwrought for me and I much preferred the
more restrained approach of Paul Tortelier and Beecham , for example.

Agreed. She always seemed to be saying "look how much I'M feeling"
rather than communicating the music. Rather like the way that girl
(can't remember her name - the one who died) mangles "Over The
Rainbow" with excessive emotion. Seems to appeal to the groundlings
though.
