Are you saying that the quality with radio on Freeview is pretty dire?

I do want good quality sound.

The quality on DAB with the exception of Radio 3 is very poor. Freeview
and Digital satellite is better on the BBC channels. The TV sound on
digital TV is sometimes very good especially on BBC 4 TV

For very high "digital" quality you have to look to Europe for better)
