Because the loftbox or other amplifier will have three separate inputs.

As the others have said, if you're distributing using a loftbox, have
three separate cables going into the loft and into the 3 inputs on the
loftbox and then distribute the combined signal throughout the house.
If you're only feeding one room, then a triplexer can be used to
combine all three aerials. Please note that three separate cables is
better than using a triplexer, as there is some loss in signal. Also
note that to separate the signals in your lounge (or wherever) it's
best to use a proper triplexer/splitter rather than a standard
splitter or there will be further loss of signal.

BTW, I have used triplexers with great success.
