Its very worthwhile changing the capacitors at that age, the original
cap makers weren't much cop!.
Perhaps they weren't LCR ones!!, those fecked up the original Audiolab
integrated, till Derek Scotland sourced better ones....
** All electro caps tested AOK on my Bob Parker ESR meter.
Only 405s were affected by badly made Kraut electros.
IIRC somewhere there is a mod to -improve- the power supply, bigger
cap/s there too I think,
** Yawn.
Not interested in any " bigger = better " ********.
I don't reckon its bollixes especially in the power amp where modern
designs can offer much higher capacities than what was available at the
time it was built. Also such things like the open frame carbon pre-sets
for setting the mid rail and bias can benefit from changing to modern
enclosed types as after 30 odd years they will have deteriorated.
Other than that the original -design- and metalwork etc is genuine, so I
don't see a problem with that at all and I bet PW would have approved if
he'd had such available!.
Do bear in mind that the English manufactured components weren't all
that wonderful at the time!..
I believe the resistors used were Checzh ones..
