I bought a Yamaha YSP 800 for the reasons you gave.

It works well enough but not as well as a five speaker system would.

You need to place the TV centrally and not in a corner for the effects
to work and for some this will not be possible.

So, if like me this was the best you could do and a five speaker system
was out, go for it but do consider room layout possibilities first.
