Odd that a cable like this is needed to extract the best from the old
2.5mm
t&e!
They could extend the ring main into the amp and save a packet.........

Just remember to top it up with the best quality snake oil before use.

Last year "Hi Fi World" did a comparitive test on mains cables, this is
what
they said of the most expensive one (480 pounds):

"The outstanding bass extension and tunefulness of the TCI was soon
evident
as it had a wonderful ability to reproduce the timbre
and dynamics of the solo piano playing from 'Beethoven Piano Sonatas'"
...
"the lead guitar was also stunning, eliminating the
uncomfortable ringing distortions of the 'Free' mains lead."

Perhaps some-one cleverer that I could explain how a mains cable can do
this
unless it was compared to a 100 metre coil of bell
wire on an amp with a totally crap power supply.

This wasn't in an April issue, by any chance?

Unfortunately not - October 2006.

I tend to read Hi Fi magazines more for entertainment than for sensible
information
When they review turntables and say that they increase bass or clarity etc,
I wonder
what planet they are from, similarly plugging $4000 interconnects.

Were it not for occasional great, informative stuff like Jim's
articles I wouldn't bother reading them at all. It strikes me that the
sole function of the editorial material is to support the advertising,
which is the real purpose of the publication.
