Default Sound recording software for old PC?

Hello

I've got an old PC with Windows 95 that I would like to use for
converting a load of old cassettes to MP3 format, and I need some
sound recording software. It doesn't need to do anything clever at
all - just start recording and then stop, saving a wav file. Can
anyone recommend anything please?

I know people always seem to recommend Audacity, but that is only for
Windows 98 or later.

Many thanks

Paul

Some - if not most - software is not specced to run on early versions of
Windows. It may not run, of course, but it may simply be that it has not
been tested on those versions. I have various bits of such freeware
which does in fact run satisfactorily, albeit rather slowly. This is
probably a combination of a very slow machine and a serious lack of
memory. As Audacity is free, why not give it a try?
