Default My sad Pure Legato Story

Hi,

I would try another repairer. My Video logic/Pure DAB tuner had a problem,
and I too was refered to the same organisation, and I think it was about £75
to repair. In the end I bought the part I needed from Maplins for £2.75 and
everything is fine.

Hi Everyone,

I bought a Pure Legato brand new from a major retailer a couple of
years back. I have not used it much at all - only at weekends for a
couple of hours. Recently it has developed problems with the CD
player, which will no longer eject CDs and my Ry Cooder CD is buried
in the internals. Dont get me wrong here, for a micro system the sound
is superb, however the non functional CD is very annoying. Worst of
all the system is out of warranty.

So I contacted Pure Technical support to ask what to do, as I cannot
prove it is still in warranty, they refer me to the company that
handles repairs whose web site is at http://www.radiofix.co.uk/. (If
you take a look at the site among other things you will notice that
the Legato 2, which is still being sold, is unrepairable once the 2
year warranty is up.). So I do a bit of trawling around the 'net
(google "Pure Legato CD Problems") and find many people with similar
problems with the Legato and Legato 2. So it seems to me this is
either a design, or manufacturing flaw. Even people who have had the
systems fixed have had them fail again. So I am now faced with a bill
of about £80 for an exchange unit with a 6 month guarantee. I am
really not sure what to do - do I part with the money or stump up for
a new CD player to connect to the Legato and never see my dear Ry
Cooder CD again...I suppose I could dissect it, remove my CD video the
lot and put it on utube - or see if Braniac will blow it up!

I would strongly advise those of you who are considering either a
Legato or a Legato 2 to take heed of my warning. Those of you with
Legato 2s should be worried as they are not repairable by Radiofix
outside the 2 year warranty period if their web site is to be
believed. I certainly am not going to buy anything made by Pure again.
Any comments. Can anyone solve the problem?

Yours, very grumpily,

Steve
