To retrieve jammed Ry Cooder CD from the Pure thingy:
Disconnect all cables/interconnects/power cables etc.
On rear panel are four screws in each corner, remove,
and the innards slide out in a tray type thingy. (from rear)
The drive is a bog standard laptop type, disconnect it from
it's IDE slot type connections. Replace with a bog standard
*laptop* type CD-ROM drive for a cost of about a tenner.
With the removed knackered drive, the fascia panel is a
clip-on type held in place by one screw - remove and place
on the tray of new CD-ROM drive. Secure new drive into
position. Secure the innards back in the belly of the Pure thingy.
Re-make all connections identical to knackered drive.
Now on the knackered drive with fascia panel removed you
will be able to discern a pin sized hole on front panel, use
a pin to insert and this will "click" and the tray locking
mechanism is freed, pull tray out and retrieve Ry Cooder CD.
Dispose of knackered CD-ROM drive.
.
I can't be arsed to look for their link, but now visit the Pure
home site, click on the support link and follow the instructions
to download updates for your Pure thingy.
If I recall correctly this involves downloading then burning
to a CD-R, follow the instructions on inserting the CD-R into
the Pure thingy and installing the updates involves using
a combination of keys on the remote control.
Important: I should stress that when downloading updates for
your budget Pure thingy, deselect "firmware update for CD".
Download and follow instructions to install all updates apart
from anything for the CD drive.
Firmware is important but should only be installed on device it
was intended, you will have a new drive installed and any
firmware from Pure will be for the original/knackered drive,
do not install the Pure site CD firmware on your new/replacement
drive............................................. .....
